Cape Cod: Long Meadow and Wellfleet Bay

Grackle on the way to feed its young.

Grackle, Wellfleet Bay Sanctuary

Just fledged Grackle

In June I found myself on the Cape. I explored Mass Audobon's Long Pasture and Wellfleet Bay Sanctuaries. I was in search of the Terapin but did not see any. Perhaps next year. The beaches provided great opportunities to explore tidal pools. I must have seen a thousand hermit crabs and perhaps thousands more fiddler crabs. And I saw my very first Willet in Wellfleet. I also stumbled upon a group of newly fledged grackles. That was pretty amazing. They must have emerged from the nest that very morning.
