Woodpeckers in Winter

Red-bellied Woodpecker (male)

Red-bellied Woodpecker having a bit of an argument with a House Sparrow.

Whatever it was the Red-bellied Woodpecker said seems to have ruffled the sparrows feathers a bit.

I have a soft spot for woodpeckers. I love them. Flickers, Red-bellied woodpeckers, Hairy and Downy woodpeckers are regulars in my backyard. I even forgive them for waking me up on occasion when they try to use the metal bits on the outside of my sliding glass doors for territorial tapping and drumming.

Just in case you wanted to know what a tongue of a Red-bellied Woodpecker looked like.
