Netherlands: Staying in Towers and Hiking with Horses

Konik stallion.

So I've been busy both photographing wild things and writing for other outlets (not this blog). You can read about most of my adventures photographing the amazing Konik horses of The Netherlands' Oostvardersplassen in this article I wrote for Equitrekking.com:

The tower mentioned in the article that I stayed in. The pond was busy early in the morning with herons and mallards going about the things herons and mallards do as soon as the sun comes up.

I had such an amazing time photographing these amazing horses in the Oostvaadersplassen. But I also headed out to photograph them in another location. I drove east to the Nationaal Park de Biesbosch. This is a gorgeous drive. And a gorgeous park. There are a few Konik horses here too, used for wetlands management. I wish I had had more time as this is a park worth wandering at leisure over the course of days. Again I passed herds of Barnacle geese and Wood Pigeons, but also \sheep, cows, and domestic horses. But it was meeting the Konik horses in the shade of a small grove of trees that was really magic.

All too soon it was time to leave and go back to Basel, Switzerland. I'll be back though. This princess needs her tower and the Konik horses are in need of more photographing.

Other views of the Oostvaardersplassen:

Views of the the Nationaal Park de Biesbosch:

Farm. Nationaal Park de Biesbosch.

A land of water. The beautiful Nationaal Park de Biesbosch.

And it wouldn't be The Netherlands without a windmill.
