The Dragonflies of Summer
It is the middle of winter and as the polar vortex threatens to return and make temperatures plunge and snow accumulate, I post these images of a much warmer time.
Twelve-spotted Skimmer. I've been trying to get a good shot of one of these for a couple of years now. They always seem to allude me even though they are quite common here in eastern Massachusetts.
Eastern Pondhawk, changing male
This was the year of the dragonfly here in eastern Massachusetts. Last year butterflies were everywhere. They disappeared this year. Instead, dragonflies were showing off along the shore of the lake near where I live.

Other photos from the summer:

Mink Frog, Limestone, Maine
Chipmunk, Grey, Maine
You were in the right place at the right time! These are magnificent.
