Berlin Zoo: Close Encounters of the Hippo Kind
This mother Hippo came over to say something to this Greater Kudu. I wish I know what they were saying to each other. They stood nose to nose, not moving for more than two minutes. What a conversation that must have been. Apparently, they have a long history as this video shows. If someone can explain to me why the Kudu is in the Hippo enclosure please leave a comment.
As mentioned in my previous post, I escaped the hustle and bustle of Greater Berlin and retreated to the Berlin Zoo. I spent a lot of time looking for native species that have taken up residence in this inner city oasis. I saw Blue Tits nesting, a huge Grey Heron rookery, Moor Hens haunting the shallows, and one of my favorite birds: the Hooded Crow.

It must be fun to be an otter. They look like they are having a good time all the time.

Grey Heron Rookery. This is just a fraction of the rookery in the treetops of the zoo. It was pretty amazing how many nests there were.
